State commission approves funding for freight infrastructure project in southwest Iowa
More than $1.5 million has been approved for a freight transportation infrastructure project in Iowa. The Iowa Transportation Commission approved the grant funding Tuesday for a project under the Linkin Iowa’s Freight Transportation System program. According to a news release, the LIFTS program provides grants for projects that help meet the changing demands of the state’s multimodal freight system, and that have economic and public benefit by improving the shipment of freight. The projects typically are not eligible for state or federal funding. The funding approved this week is for the first phase of a container freight station for TSL Companies. According to the release, the project will provide more efficient transportation of products by truck and rail in the Council Bluffs area.
