The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship has opened this year’s signup for cost share funds for projects aimed at reducing fertilizer runoff on crop fields. The cost share varies depending on whether the farmer has installed the practices before. Funds for up to 160 acres per farm will be available in July. Last fall, 2,600 farmers signed up to participate in the program and spent $8.7 million on projects to match $4.8 million in state cost share funds. That included 1,000 farmers using a practice for the first time and more than 1,600 who were repeating the practices. To sign up, contact your local Soil and Water Conservation District.
