Iowa has received a $2.5 million federal grant to upgrade 911 equipment and operations in call centers. The new technology, Next Generation 911, is an internet-based system that can reroute and transfer wireless calls. The system also gives more accurate information about the location of the caller and information from data collected by smart cars.
