The State of Iowa will receive a federal grant of nearly $1.74 million to enhance opioid abuse treatment and prevention programs. The Comprehensive Opioid Abuse Program will support the implementation and study of diversion to treatment programs in three counties: Black Hawk, Story and Jones counties, the Governor’s Office of Drug Control Policy announced. The grant will also fund additional prescription drug take-back receptacles, training and data collection. “This new grant will allow us to develop and evaluate new forms of early intervention as well as efficiently link those in need of substance use disorder treatment with local service providers,” Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a statement. “Iowa continues to be all hands on deck to combat opioid abuse.”
