State transportation commission awards $7.6M for FY 2023 traffic safety projects

123 wordsAll Latest News, Statewide News, TransportationMore than $7.6 million has been approved for 23 projects from the Iowa Traffic Safety Improvement Program for fiscal year 2023. According to a news release, the program was created in 1987 to increase traffic safety on the state’s roadways. Funding is available for use on city, county and state roads. The funding approved earlier this month by the Iowa Transportation Commission was $500,000 to the city of Des Moines for left-turn lanes on Second Avenue, $280,000 to West Des Moines for left-turn lanes on Prairie View Drive and Ashworth Road, and $500,000 to the city of Ankeny for Northeast Delaware Avenue land conversion and signals.
