Illinois and New Jersey just became the latest states to enact laws banning employers from asking about job applicants’ salary histories, reports American Public Media. Questions about salary histories hurt women and minorities the most, said Anne Hedgepeth with the American Association of University Women. Female workers still make about 80 cents for every dollar earned by a man in the same job, and the disparity is even greater for women of color.
