Student researcher seeks farmers to take health survey

Isabelle Schroeder, a senior at Drake University majoring in clinical and medical sciences, has been selected for Drake’s Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship to study the slower reduction of cancer death rates in rural areas. A 2021 report from the Iowa Cancer Registry shows that Iowa is projected to have the second-highest rate of cancer cases in the country this year, while cancer death rates have declined more nationally and in urban areas. Schroeder’s research will consider agricultural risk factors and explore preventive and risky behaviors for cancer among Iowa farmers. Any farmers willing to participate in the research project can fill out this anonymous and confidential health survey. Schroeder is from Odebolt and plans to go to medical school and return to serve her rural community, according to her statement.
