The Summercrest Hills development on the north side of Indianola is expected to undergo another burst of construction beginning this summer with work slated to begin on a 70-room hotel and 116-unit senior living community, Randy Bray, principal at Three-Sixty Group and Three-Sixty Construction Services, said today.

Three-Sixty Group is the managing developer of the 160-acre development site that currently is home to the Vintage Hills retirement community, a YMCA, three medical offices, a dental clinic, a Theisen’s Inc. store and a Greater Iowa Credit Union branch.

Calamar Enterprises Inc., which is based in a suburb of Buffalo, N.Y., plans to extend its operations west of the Mississippi River with the development of the senior living community at Summercrest Hills and a similar project in Ankeny.

The as yet unbranded hotel will fill a slot that has long been on the wish list for Indianola city officials. Meanwhile, people who live and work in the Summercrest area also believe that Casey’s General Stores Inc. will build nearby. Bray would not comment on that possibility. He did say that the development group hopes to add a “restaurant or two.”
