Construction firms in Iowa and nationwide are struggling to find workers, and most don’t expect the labor shortage to improve in the next year, a survey by the Associated General Contractors of America found. The Des Moines Register reported that 92 percent of Iowa firms surveyed said they were having trouble finding workers. Eighty-eight percent said they expect it will remain difficult or become even more difficult to fill jobs. Construction spending reached a seven-year high in July, according to the U.S. Commerce Department, but many tradesmen left the business during the recession and never returned.
