Survey: Downtown D.M. is Iowa’s most expensive place to rent an apartment

The annual survey of most expensive ZIP codes for renters showed that in the 50309 ZIP code, which includes downtown Des Moines, the East Village and south of Martin L. King Jr. Parkway, renters pay $1,157 a month on average. That’s up 0.4% from a year ago, the survey found.
Renters in Johnston’s 50131 ZIP code had the second-highest monthly rent averages at $1,099, down 0.8% from a year ago, the survey found.
Nationally, the highest average monthly rent is in Manhattan, N.Y.’s 10282 ZIP code. Renters there paid $6,211 a month on average, up 12.4% from a year ago.
