Syngenta picks Nevada for facility
Nevada, Iowa, was named yesterday as the preferred site for Syngenta Seeds Inc.’s new corn production facility, the Nevada Journal reported.
Initially, Syngenta was reviewing 45 potential locations in Iowa, Illinois and Indiana, but selected Nevada because it “offered the right combination of attributes to meet our business needs,” said Mike Hollands, head of supply chain for Syngenta Seeds.
“We have identified Nevada as our preferred site for a potential corn production facility due to its proximity to established growing areas, highly productive cropland, access to the interstate highway and strong population base to recruit future employees,” Hollands said.
Nevada economic development officials are working with Syngenta to invest in the planning phase, and collaboration is already under way with state and local officials, and is expected to continue through 2009.
The proposed facility would supplement current corn production for Syngenta and would provide supplies to meet the anticipated demand for hybrids with Agrisure traits marketed through the Syngenta seed brands of Garst, Golden Harvest and NK.
