Target follows Wal-Mart in raising its minimum wage
Target Corp. plans to boost pay of all its workers to at least $9 an hour starting next month, following similar moves by rivals Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and TJX Cos. as competition for lower-wage workers heats up, MarketWatch reported. Wal-Mart said last month that it would raise the floor for all hourly workers to at least $9 an hour starting in April, before climbing to $10 an hour next year. TJX, owner of T.J. Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, followed with an across-the-board pay increase also to $9 an hour starting in June, and at least $10 an hour next year if an employee has been with the company for at least six months.
