The Iowa Clinic announced today that it has closed on an acquisition of 7.6 acres of land in the Kettlestone Development in Waukee, where it plans to break ground for a new multispecialty medical center that will be the largest of its kind in Waukee. The multispecialty physician group plans to open the facility in mid-2024.

“The Iowa Clinic is uniquely positioned to bring our model of multispecialty coordinated care to a larger location in Waukee — serving the needs of growing families,” said CEO Ben Vallier. “Conveniently located near Interstate 80, we hope to improve the lives of area residents and neighboring suburbs with quality medical providers across our 40-plus specialties.” The Iowa Clinic paid $2.3 million for the property, and expects the project will be in the $30 million to $35 million range, spokeswoman Erica Turner said.

The planned facility, which will be about 53,000 square feet, will be similar in size to the Iowa Clinic’s Ankeny center. The new Waukee facility will include primary care and family practice as well as an urgent care clinic; additional services are under consideration, a spokeswoman said. In total, the facility will house about 75 health care providers and staff members. The Iowa Clinic currently operates two clinic locations in Waukee.

The multispecialty medical center will be located at the northwest corner of Tallgrass Lane and Grand Prairie Parkway, which is northeast of a new headquarters completed last year by VizyPay. Planning for the 1,200-acre Kettlestone Development began in 2014 and has since spurred significant development activity, including a new entertainment district.

The city of Waukee’s investment in planning, design and infrastructure for the development set the stage for the rise in economic development interest in the area, Mayor Courtney Clarke said in a statement.

“We are excited with this announcement as the Iowa Clinic is a perfect addition to Kettlestone,” Clarke said. “We look forward to the organization offering expanded healthcare services to the ever-expanding Waukee community.”

The Iowa Clinic, founded in 1994, is based in a 170,000-square-foot medical facility in West Des Moines. The physician-owned multispecialty group has more than 250 health care providers and operates seven other clinic sites throughout Greater Des Moines as well as numerous outreach clinics in rural areas.
