The public has spoken on the architecture it fancied the most last year, according to the Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Voting during the month of April — with 544,000 votes counted — picked these winners of the People’s Choice awards: Spencer High School Fine Arts Center Addition by CMBA Architects, first place; Linn-Mar Community Schools High School Addition and Renovation by DLR Group, second; University of Northern Iowa – Schindler Education Center by DLR Group, third; YALI Regional Leadership Center – East Africa by DLR Group, fourth; MMCRU Royals Industrial Technology Addition by CMBA Architects, fifth. Thirteen projects were submitted for consideration by the community, including many schools and public buildings. This year saw a marked increase in community participation.
