Sheryl Moore admits she’s a little OCD. That’s why when she says she likes the Beastie Boys, an ’80s rock-rap group that she started following as a child, that means that she has literally hundreds of pieces of memorabilia about the band. She’s also a movie buff, so — you guessed it — she has more than 500 DVDs of movies. Simply put, Sheryl Moore is a collector. And her premiere collection is on her body — a tattoo chronicle of a turbulent, sometimes tragic, but ultimately spunky, successful 40 years of living.
Her tattoo collection is even more unusual given the fact that Moore works in the insurance industry. Her two companies provide information to insurance companies on indexed life insurance, indexed annuities, nonvariable life insurance and annuities. Moore boasts that her companies have been profitable all 11 years of their existence and are a million-dollar enterprise.
Her tattoos honor her teenage son, who committed suicide after being bullied because he was gay, her love of the Beastie Boys and her own life’s journey from divorced mom to CEO.
Her customers would never know of her tattoos — none are visible when she’s dressed in a suit. That’s intentional, because as a woman who for much of her life looked too young to vote, she’s had to struggle for credibility in the industry. Today she has success and credibility, so she’s confident enough to show off her tattoos. She adds: “You don’t have to be a 65-year-old white guy to enjoy what you do in life insurance.”
