The story behind the restoration of ‘Apollo and Venus’
Remember that big story about how Robert Warren over at Hoyt Sherman Place found Otto van Veen’s valuable “Apollo and Venus” painting while he was looking for Civil War flags in a little-used storeroom beneath the theater’s second floor balcony? Now you can hear the story behind the restoration of the painting by conservator Barry Bauman at 1 p.m. Oct. 26. The hourlong presentation, “A Triple Discovery: Hoyt Sherman Place’s Apollo and Venus,” is free and open to the public. After the theater presentation the painting will be on display. Bauman previously worked for the Art Institute of Chicago.
