Looking for a new act off the main stage? Check out these upcoming performances from some of Greater Des Moines’ theater groups.

Angels in America. After achieving success when it put on the first part of “Angels in America” in 2005, StageWest decided to do it again, only this time add Part 2. Ron Lambert, the theater company’s producing artistic director, said the cast met periodically last year to review their parts with the intention of doing both three-hour plays this year. The show runs until March 18 at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines’ Stoner Studio Theater. Starting in May, StageWest will put on the comedy “The Underpants” by Steve Martin. Godspell. This musical, based on the Gospel of St. Matthew, features songs about Jesus’ parables and teachings. The last performance is March 18 at the Ankeny Community Theater. For more information, visit www.ankenycommunitytheatre.com.

A Woman Called Truth. This play, put on by the Des Moines Playhouse, looks at Sojourner Truth and her fight against injustice through her words, spirituals and folk songs. The play runs from March 30 to April 15. Then from April 13 through May 6, the Playhouse will perform the musical “The Full Monty.” Visit www.dmplayhouse.com for more information.

Fresh Breath Vol. 2 – Howl James Brown. Robert Canada is hosting this performance at the Fourth Street Theatre on March 15, which will celebrate the life of James Brown with performances by local poets, performance artists and vocalists.
