Mercy Foundation and Mercy Medical Center have named the recipients of the 2015 Spirit of Mercy Champion Award – Patty and Jim Cownie and Sister Mary Karen Yarkosky. Patty and Jim Cownie, members of the Mercy Foundation Gilead Circle, have served Mercy through combined board service of 31 years and have given generously to capital campaigns for areas of Mercy including Mercy Children’s Hospital and Clinics. Sister Mary Karen Yarkosky professed her vows in 1948 and spent 38 years as a school teacher. She has served at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston since 1986 and continues to volunteer there today. Last year, Steve Chapman received the inaugural award. The honorees will be recognized during the Champions Dinner on Sunday, May 17, at Glen Oaks Country Club.
