United Way Worldwide has honored United Way of Central Iowa with five Fleur de Lis Awards for Excellence, in recognition of growth of its Tocqueville Society, which recognizes donors who give $10,000 or more annually to their local United Way. Among 150 medium-sized communities, United Way of Central Iowa ranked first in five categories: most Tocqueville Society members, net change in Tocqueville members over 2008, most Tocqueville dollars raised for community impact, net increase in community impact dollars raised, and highest percentage of Tocqueville gift increases above 10 percent.
The Better Business Bureau of Greater Iowa will hold the BBB Integrity Awards featuring keynote speaker Hall of Fame NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown. Five organizations – Arnold Motor Supply, Milford; Anderson Automotive, Marion; Midwest Basement Systems, Des Moines; ITAGroup Inc., West Des Moines; and Horizons, A Family Service Alliance, Cedar Rapids – will be honored at the event for their commitment to ethics and integrity. West Des Moines-based Catchfire Media LLC has been named Kum & Go LC’s social media agency of record, and will help Kum & Go create and execute top-level social media strategies. “We want to engage customers at their preferred point of engagement,” said Lisa Lewis, Kum & Go’s advertising and promotions manager, in a release. “We are seeing more customers prefer to engage with us on social media networks than ever before. Connecting with our customers on Facebook, Twitter, and other networks allows us to directly communicate special offers and to receive immediate feedback from them.”
Kristin Runyan has been named vice president of product management at CDS Global Inc. She will be responsible for ensuring that CDS Global provides the products and services, through enhancement and development, which will continue to lead the company into the future. Runyan joins CDS Global from Open Text/Vignette.
Lincolnway Energy LLC has agreed to a consent decree and paid a $176,750 civil penalty for air pollution and water pollution violations at its ethanol production plant in Nevada, Iowa, the Iowa attorney general’s office announced Monday. The suit alleged that Lincolnway discharged wastewater into West Indian Creek during several months in 2006 and 2007. Lincolnway has since corrected the wastewater effluent problems.
Iowa Homeless Youth Centers, which has helped homeless young people become independent and self-sufficient since 1985, will be holding a 25th anniversary event tonight from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at the Science Center of Iowa.
