The Technology Association of Iowa has announced the winners of its annual Prometheus Awards, which recognize outstanding accomplishments by high-tech businesses and individuals across the state. Cedar Rapids-based Security Coverage won the award for best small/medium technology company, and Ames-based PowerFilm Inc. won the award for best large/enterprise company of the year. AARP has launched an online resource intended to help older Americans understand the impact of the recently enacted healthreform package. The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines announced it has awarded three grants totaling $120,000 to support housing, employment, education and health. The foundation awarded $75,000 to the Polk County Housing Trust Fund, $25,000 to Central Iowa Works and $20,000 to the Community Impact Partnership.
Iowa architects participating in the 2010 Central Iowa Canstruction competition donated nearly 20,000 pounds of food to the Food Bank of Iowa. Architects built structures entirely out of canned and boxed foods in a 10-square-foot space. Their structures drew more than 2,800 attendees, who viewed the structures and donated food.
The University of Northern Iowa has received re-accreditation in business from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. “We believe in the quality of the business education we deliver, but it is always good to receive external, independent validation, especially when it comes from the most respected and recognized accrediting organization for business schools,” said UNI College of Business Administration Dean Farzad Moussavi in a release. Worldwide, only about 5 percent of business schools hold AACSB accreditation.
