Meredith Corp. reported fiscal 2010 second quarter earnings of 42 cents per share, including a previously announced special charge of 7 cents per share related to the repositioning of its Special Interest Media business. That was up from earnings of 28 cents per share during the same quarter a year prior. Revenues were $337 million, down from $361 million during the same quarter in 2009. Read the full report.

Sen. Tom Harkin announced that Iowa Workforce Development will receive nearly $6 million in recovery act funds to help train people for jobs in energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. The Iowa Energy Sector Partnership will use the funding to implement a state-driven green workforce development plan for the emerging energy economy.

The Technology Association of Iowa and LWBJ Financial announced today that Jan. 29 will be the final day to submit nominations for the fifth annual Prometheus Awards. The awards are held annually and recognize 18 areas of innovation and distinction. The awards event will be held on April 6. The awards are open to all companies in Iowa. New jobless claims increased to a two-month high last week, according to a Labor Department report released today. There were 482,000 initial job claims filed in the week ended Jan. 16, up 36,000 from 446,000 the previous week, CNNMoney.com reported.
