Des Moines was No. 1 in Forbes magazine’s latest rankings of “Best Places to Raise a Family.” The ranking is based on the cost of living, prevalence of home ownership, median household income, housing costs, commute time, crime and the percentage of young adults that graduate from high school. Des Moines beat out 99 other major metropolitan areas, including Harrisburg-Carlisle, Pa. (No. 2) and Rochester, N.Y. (No. 3).
The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority will make multiple adjustments to service beginning Sunday. Among the changes, an additional evening peak trip will be added to Route 1; The Roosevelt High School loop on Route 3 will be eliminated for the summer beginning June 14; time points for Route 7 and 8 will change slightly; Route 11 service to and from the Jordan Creek area will start earlier in the day and will serve the new Aviva plc campus in West Des Moines.
U.S. Bank, lead bank of U.S. Bancorp, and the Kroger Co. grocery store chain announced a strategic alliance that will give Kroger customers a suite of payment products. U.S. Bank has purchased Kroger’s existing credit portfolio and plans to offer additional financial services for Kroger customers. The alliance is an expansion of U.S. Bank’s financial services with Kroger, the nation’s largest traditional grocery retailer.
Dubuque-based Flexsteel Industries Inc.’s board of directors declared a third-quarter dividend of 5 cents per share, payable July 1 to shareholders on record as of June 18. The company says it believes its cash flow and operating income levels are supportive of the current dividend – the 274th consecutive dividend since 1938.
