More home mortgage borrowers are defaulting after their loans have been modified, U.S. banking regulators said in a Reuters article. After three months, 19 percent of borrowers were delinquent by 60 or more days, or in the process of foreclosure, and after six months, nearly 37 percent were delinquent by 60 or more days. The number of delinquencies increased across all loan categories, although subprime loans had the highest default rates.

Green Bay, Wis.-based Wisconsin Public Service Corp. has acquired the rights to build a 99-megawatt Crane Creek Wind Farm in Riceville, a small community in the northeast corner of Iowa, The Business Journal of Milwaukee reported. In April 2008, Public Service Corp.’s commission unanimously approved the purchase by WPS; however, terms of purchase and the operations contracts were not disclosed. The wind farm is expected to be operational by December 2009.

Aviva plc is launching a new advertising campaign to announce that United Kingdom’s largest insurance company, Norwich Union, is changing its name to Aviva effective June 2009. The ad campaign will launch on Friday and will run for approximately six months. The change of name in the U.K. marks the final phase of the company’s move toward a worldwide brand.

Wells Fargo & Co. announced today it has provided more than $3 billion in environmental financing, far surpassing its goal of $1 billion, and the company did it two years ahead of schedule. Wells Fargo’s $1 billion lending target was part of its 10-point environmental commitment aimed at integrating environmental responsibility into its business practices.

Ruby Tuesday Inc., the owner of the Ruby Tuesday food chain, announced it will close approximately 70 restaurants nationwide, incurring impairment and lease costs upward of $70 million in fiscal 2009. The food chain, which has five locations in Iowa, one of which is located in Urbandale, cited declining sales as a cause for the closures. Ruby Tuesday said it expects to close 40 restaurants in the third quarter of 2009 and an additional 30 locations over the next several years.

The Warren County Philanthropic Partnership is accepting community grant applications from any organization that is considered a 501(c)(3) nonprofit or 170(b) unit of government organization. Grant amounts are dependent upon the allocation of funds available to the foundation and awards will not be made for debt relief and ongoing operation subsidies, fund raising expenses, endowments, and politically sensitive or religious purposes.
