State leaders have ousted the medical director of a state institution for severely disabled Iowans, more than a year after staff members complained that poor medical care there caused a spike in deaths.

Dr. Mohammad Rehman resigned “in lieu of termination” Friday from the Glenwood Resource Center, documents from the Iowa Department of Human Services show.
