More than 50 people joined Polk County Housing Trust Fund’s bus tour this morning to discuss affordable housing and access to food. The featured organization was the Partnership for a Hunger-Free Polk County — community partners working to eliminate hunger in Polk County. The partnership’s goal is to raise $10 million to increase access to food pantries and to increase awareness of both the problem and the food pantry locations. So far, the partnership has raised $5 million, renovated a warehouse for donated food items, increased food pantry hours, bought a mobile food pantry and identified neighborhoods that have many low income families but little access to food assistance. Learn more
