Transportation commission approves more than $13 million for public transit

The Iowa Transportation Commission on Tuesday approved more than $1.6 million in funding to support five public transit projects, including projects for Des Moines Area Regional Transit and CyRide in Ames. The projects are funded under the Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Fund, which provides up to 80 percent state funding assistance to Iowa’s public transit systems for new or improved facilities. DART received $92,500 for a project to update its electrical distribution system, and CyRide received $517,042 for a bus wash and heating/cooling system. To see a list of all projects funded, click hereThe commission also approved more than $11.5 million in federal funding for 99 rural and urban public transit vehicles that will replace vehicles past their useful life.
