Transportation panel set for April 9

Stand Up For Transportation, a panel discussion and street festival, is set for April 9 in downtown Des Moines. Live music and food vendors will be featured on 12th Street between Grand Avenue and Locust Street from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. A panel discussion from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Central Library, 1000 Grand Ave., will feature U.S. Rep. David Young; Ben McLean, president and  CEO of Ruan Transportation Management Systems; John Cinealis, manager,  the Toro Co.; developer Jake Christensen; and Larry James Jr., real estate counsel, Faegre Baker Daniels. The event, part of a nationwide campaign by the American Public Transportation Association, is designed to encourage Congress to support transportation projects as a way to help economic growth, job creation, attracting and retaining residents, and making it easier to get around. Organizers include the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Urban Land Institute, Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Des Moines Area  Regional Transit Authority and Snyder & Associates.
