Turner Construction Company executives Barry Determan and Zach Loy will serve as the community volunteer co-chairs for the American Heart Association’s 2023-24 Central Iowa Heart Challenge. Determan, a construction executive, and Loy, vice president and general manager, work in Turner Construction’s Iowa business unit. Both have participated in past events from the American Heart Association. The Central Iowa Heart Challenge features multiple initiatives from the American Heart Association designed to help companies and individuals positively affect the health and well-being of Central Iowans through campaigns such as CycleNation, Heart Walk and Hard Hats with Heart. Central Iowa CycleNation is a stationary cycling event scheduled for Oct. 5 at Cowles Commons in Des Moines; the Central Iowa Heart Walk is a 1- or 3-mile group walk to boost physical and mental health that will take place May 18, 2024; and Hard Hats with Heart is an initiative to raise awareness of heart disease among members of the construction industry.
