Turner Construction opening office in downtown Des Moines

195 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentTurner Construction Co., the general contractor for Facebook Inc.’s data center in Altoona, is expanding its Central Iowa presence by opening an office in Des Moines.
The New York-based company has tapped Barry Determan to manage its Iowa office, which will be located at 500 Locust St. Determan, who has worked for Turner Construction for 16 years, is an Iowa State University graduate and an Iowa native.
Turner, which also has worked on the West Des Moines Microsoft Corp. data center, has more than 100 workers in Iowa.
A year ago, leading industry publication Engineering News-Record listed Turner as the country’s top contractor in terms of new contracts, which in 2017 totaled $15.4 billion. Two years ago, Mark Iammarino, Turner’s general manager and vice president for its Midwest region, told the Business Record that the company was considering whether to establish a long-term presence in the Des Moines area.
Since entering the Central Iowa market in 2013, Turner has become involved in the community by participating in local chambers of commerce, Iowa Skilled Trades, Homeless Veterans Stand Down, Boys and Girls Club, ReBuilding Together, and the ACE Mentor Program, according to a news release.
