Two Iowa companies acquired
Hormel Foods Corp. has purchased Nevada, Iowa-based Burke Corp. for approximately $110 million and Ontario, Canada-based Salford Farm Machinery Ltd. has acquired Osceola-based Mac-Lander Inc.
Acquiring Burke, a manufacturer of pizza toppings and other fully cooked meat products primarily for restaurants, foodservice establishments and manufacturers of frozen entrees and appetizers, will strengthen Hormel’s position in the pizza-topping industry, the company said.
“This acquisition increases our production efficiencies and adds manufacturing capabilities, enabling Hormel Foods to grow in this important category,” the company’s chairman, President and CEO, Jeffrey Ettinger, said in a press release.
Meanwhile, Salford expects its purchase of Mac-Lander, a leading manufacturer of flatbed trailers, to increase Salford’s access to key markets in Iowa and the Midwest. Salford, which manufactures farm machinery, will continue to build trailers under the Mac-Lander name, but also plans to build and ship Salford’s core products from the Osceola facility, which will become a U.S. parts distribution center for Salford’s products as well.
“We definitely see this as a win-win situation,” said Geof Gray, general manager of Salford, in a press release. “In addition to entering the flatbed trailer market with Mac-Lander’s established brand, we are able to also increase Salford’s capacity and continue to meet our customers’ needs.”
