Des Moines will host the TYR Pro Swim Series in 2022, USA Swimming announced Friday. The event is scheduled for March 2-5 at the MidAmerican Energy Aquatic Center at the Wellmark YMCA. The event, which Des Moines has hosted in the past, brings hundreds of the world’s top swimmers to the community. Greg Edwards, CEO and president of Catch Des Moines, said the series returning to Des Moines is another example of what the metro area has to offer. “We are honored that USA Swimming will be bringing the TYR Pro Swim Series to Des Moines for another year,” Edwards said in a news release. “We enjoy hosting world class athletes and Olympians in our city and showing them what Des Moines has to offer. We have great facilities to host such events, and we are glad USA Swimming recognizes that.” Leisha Barcus, president and CEO of the YMCA of Greater Des Moines, said the event helps raise the city’s profile on the national swimming stage and provides millions of dollars in economic benefit to the city. It also “gives our residents and local swimmers a chance to be inspired by world-class athletes and Olympians,” she said.
