U.S. architecture firms see slight increase in billings

Demand for design services from architecture firms saw some improvement in September with fewer firms reporting declines in billing, the American Institute of Architects reported. AIA’s Architecture Billings Index score for September was 47, compared with 40 in August. The September score indicates overall revenue at the nation’s architecture firms continued to decline but that the pace of the decline slowed, according to the report. “Architecture firms across the U.S. are seeing a rise in the multi-family residential sector, however Iowa is seeing a rise in both Institutional and single-family residential with a slow-down in relation to the commercial market,” Jessica Reinert, AIA Iowa executive director, said in a news release. “Iowa is similar to the rest of the country in that across the board growth in all markets won’t take place until the economic impact of the pandemic subsides significantly.”
