UI Hospitals & Clinics announced that Kimberly Hunter has been named interim CEO, effective March 1, following the departure of Suresh Gunasekaran. Hunter is currently chief nurse executive of UI Hospitals & Clinics, a position she’s held since joining the university health system nearly a year ago. “Kim has shown outstanding leadership since joining the senior hospital management team and will do well to continue our patient care mission, COVID-19 response, and clinical and growth initiatives,” said Dr. J. Brooks Jackson, vice president of medical affairs and the Tyrone D. Artz dean of the Carver College of Medicine. Hunter has more than 30 years of health care management experience, including nearly 20 years of collective experience at Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic. Gunasekaran, who has accepted a position in California, will continue to lead UI Hospitals & Clinics through his departure at the end of February, working closely with Hunter to ensure a smooth transition. An announcement of a search committee to begin a national search for the permanent CEO position is expected soon.
