The University of Northern Iowa has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health at the University of Iowa to support research focused on social and emotional learning. The project, led by Dr. Kerri Clopton in UNI’s College of Education and Dr. Darcie Davis-Gage in UNI’s College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, will investigate the effectiveness of providing multi-tiered support to educators to reduce burnout, increase job satisfaction, and increase knowledge and skills in responding to social situations in teaching. The study will take place over two years and focus on six rural schools and one urban school in Iowa. The research project aims to provide effective support to school personnel, leading to better student outcomes. The study leaders will speak at the upcoming UNI Social & Emotional Learning Conference.
