United Way of Central Iowa’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites are open for the 2015 tax season. VITA offers free tax preparation services for Central Iowans who earned $58,000 or less in 2014. This year, United Way has seven VITA locations, staffed by 250 volunteers required to pass IRS training and certification. United Way expects to complete 5,500 returns by the April filing deadlines.
