United Way of Central Iowa will hold its first-ever Refugee Summit: “Welcoming New Iowans into the Community.” The two-day summit at Plymouth Church, 4126 Ingersoll Ave. in Des Moines, is meant to honor the achievements of refugees in Central Iowa, raise awareness about the ways in which they enrich the community, and increase knowledge about how best to welcome them and provide support. The Saturday sessions will be geared toward refugees themselves, helping them learn how to navigate a new culture and thrive in Iowa. Tickets to Friday’s sessions are sold out.
