A series of community conversations to discuss the UpLift Central Iowa Basic Income Pilot and next steps in addressing needs of low-income families will kick off at 3 p.m. Sept. 5 at the Varsity Cinema in Des Moines. UpLift is a cross-sector collaboration that is studying the impacts of Central Iowans receiving a basic income. The event will cover what basic income is and include a showing of “Raising the Floor,” which features the Chelsea Eats pilot program. The 30-minute documentary tells the story of how a community’s path from food insecurity transformed to providing over 2,000 families with economic stability. After the showing, attendees will be able to participate in a discussion about the Chelsea Eats’ approach to meeting community needs. Registration for the event is available here and closes Saturday.
