The trail “is a great addition for trail users in Urbandale,” parks and recreation director Jan Herke said in a news release. “It will help connect residents to Waterford Park — and the new disc golf course that will be completed there this summer.” Construction of the trail, which was funded through Urbandale’s Capital Improvements Program, cost about $187,000. The addition of the trail was part of a nearly $6 million project that made Waterford Road, which is becoming a major east-west arterial street in Urbandale, a five-lane road between 56th and 170th streets.
