Michael Carver, who has served on the Urbandale City Council for 12 years, is not seeking reelection in November. He is the third City Council member to announce that he won’t seek reelection. Creighton Cox, who has been on the council eight years, is not seeking reelection. Neither is Tom Gayman, who has been on the council 12 years. Carver began his involvement with Urbandale more than 45 years ago when he became branch manager of what is now Wells Fargo Bank at 8301 Douglas Ave. Over the years, he’s been involved with several economic development projects including the 86th Street interchange to Interstate Highway 80/35, the extension of 100th Street from Douglas Avenue to Hickman Road, and the recently completed 100th Street interstate interchange. Carver says he will continue to focus on assisting the J-Hawk Soccer Club in securing adequate city soccer fields to provide playing opportunities for Urbandale youth. “I want to thank the citizens of Urbandale for giving me the opportunity to serve as a city council member,” Carver said in a news release. He said he’ll remain a “strong advocate for Urbandale and look for other opportunities to serve.”
