Urbandale library to host virtual presentation about Iowan Ruth Sayre
The Urbandale Public Library will host “First Lady of the Farm,” about Iowa native Ruth Buxton Sayre, who was appointed to President Dwight Eisenhower’s agricultural policy committee and served as the president of the Associated Country Women of the World. Through her work, Sayre sought to redefine the accepted characterization of women on farms and convince farm women that they were capable of aiding in postwar reconstruction. The virtual presentation by Abby Dubisar will be at 6 p.m. March 25 and is free and open to the public. More information can be found at www.urbandalelibrary.org.
Editor’s note: The headline has been updated with the correct spelling of Sayre’s name.
