Variety – the Children’s Charity of Iowa will distribute bikes, helmets and locks on Saturday, April 25, to 250 preselected children at the Grubb YMCA at 9 a.m. The equipment is given to children who do not have bikes of their own. The Des Moines Police Department will be on hand to teach the children about bicycle safety. The event was sponsored by Sammons Financial Group, which also provided volunteer support. The nonprofit’s Kids on the Go! program aims to help children gain mobility, confidence, freedom, independence and the chance to join in the life of their community by providing bicycles.
