VERBIO forms new company as it prepares for third-quarter opening of Nevada ethanol plant
VERBIO North American Corp. has formed VERBIO Farm Services LLC as it moves toward the opening of its renewable fuel production facility in Nevada. According to a news release, the recent construction of eight large fermentation tanks will help the company begin operating in the third quarter of 2021. The plant uses anaerobic digestion technology to convert cellulosic plant matter into renewable fuel. Company officials say the central Iowa region is suited to provide up to 100,000 tons of corn stover each year to produce 7 million gallons of ethanol once the first phase of the site development is complete. “This is a critical step for our North America operations and we look forward to engaging with the region’s growers to secure feedstock vital to the plant’s operations,” said Bernd Sauter, director of purchasing and logistics, said in the release. Ronald DeJongh, of Ames, is the president of the newly formed company, bringing more than 30 years of agriculture experience to the position, the release said. VERBIO purchased the facility from Dow DuPont in late 2018, more than a year after it was abruptly shut down. Under Dow Dupont the plant never became fully operational. Verbio currently manages four corn stover sites it acquired from Dupont.
