Two longtime Iowa news professionals have been honored for mentoring young journalists. Daily Iowan Publisher Bill Casey and Des Moines Register watchdog reporter Lee Rood were recognized as IowaWatch Master Mentors at a Des Moines reception Saturday by the Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism-IowaWatch. Casey has been publisher at the University of Iowa’s student-run newspaper, The Daily Iowan, since 1976. Rood, a Register reporter since 1997, is known for her investigative journalism, but also for mentoring young journalists, particularly female reporters.
