Nine executives from the Des Moines business community got out of the office and into tool belts Thursday, helping Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity raise the exterior walls of a home on 23rd street in Des Moines. The area businesspeople took part in Habitat’s CEO Build Day, which was organized by Chris Welp, chief operating officer at ING, and Cara Heiden, division president at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Welp, who is also on Habitat’s board of directors, said it was nice to get out of the office and do some manual labor since he spends most of his day in meetings or on conference calls.
