A candlelight vigil for Ukraine is planned at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Jamie Hurd Amphitheater, 4100 Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines. The public is invited to attend the event, which will feature a performance of “Prayer for Ukraine” by the Valley High School vocal music program. Speakers at the event, sponsored by West Des Moines’ Human Rights Commission and Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, will include Valley High School students Matthew Zhuravlov and Marharyta Tataryna, both from Ukraine. Attendees are encouraged to wear blue and yellow in support of the people of Ukraine. Parking is available in the lot at West Des Moines City Hall, 4200 Mills Civic Parkway. Attendees may bring chairs and blankets. The Valley Southwoods forum area will serve as a backup location in case of inclement weather.
