Volunteer Iowa has allocated $400,000 in state and federal funding to equip and staff a mobile response unit that will make critical repairs to tornado-damaged homes in Marshalltown, Gov. Kim Reynolds announced. The mobile response unit is a partnership between Volunteer Iowa and Habitat for Humanity of Iowa and is supported by the Iowa Economic Development Authority and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Ultimately, the team will serve as a resource for other communities, like Marshalltown, that do not have a Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Approximately 60 homes in Marshalltown either were destroyed or had significant structural damage in the July storms, while another 300 or so sustained major damage. Volunteer Iowa and Habitat for Humanity of Iowa have immediate openings for additional staff members to assist in this effort. For more information, click here.
