The small store, which shares building space with Peterson Painting at 4505 Forest Ave., offers a variety of apparel, gifts, plants and other goods.

Amy Plymat brings an assortment of imported and locally hand-painted scarves, as well as shawls and purses, which she has been selling wholesale to retailers throughout the Midwest for about seven years. She also sells doggy bags designed to hold small dogs.

Carolyn Helton makes custom jewelry and is working with Valerie Findley to bring in fair trade items from around the world. Findley’s primary focus is on clothing and she also manages the store’s garden center featuring fresh-cut herbs and plants, a business she bought from Plymat two years ago.

“Each of us brings something different,” Plymat said. “It’s stimulating to see what everyone else is doing.”

As sole proprietors, each woman’s revenues is based on how well the goods she provides sell. They also split up store operations, each managing the store two days a week. “It’s a way to keep expenses low and overhead under control,” Plymat said. “Plus, we’re each doing our share of the operation. It’s been working out great.”

The store is closed on Thursdays so the owners can attend the Valley Junction Farmers Market. They also sell at the Downtown Farmers Market.
