Iowa Fireworks Co., based in Urbandale, is proposing to construct a 13,520-square-foot warehouse with retail space on property located at 1820 E. Army Post Road, according to documents included in this week’s Des Moines Plan and Zoning Commission packet. Currently, a metal building that once housed a restaurant is on the 1-acre site. The building is described on the Polk County assessor’s website as being in “below normal” condition. A new building would include storage areas and 2,500 square feet in retail space. A loading dock would be located on the rear of the structure. Iowa Fireworks bought the property in 2019, records show. The Plan and Zoning Commission meets at 6 p.m. Thursday.
