The Iowa Economic Development Authority has awarded $4.65 million for three projects through the Destination Iowa program. Funding for the projects will come from American Rescue Plan Act funds. According to a news release, the projects are:

• $3.5 million to Black Hawk County Conservation and Linn County Conservation to pave 16 miles of the Cedar Valley Nature Trail, completing the 52-mile trail, connecting the Waterloo/Cedar Falls and Cedar Rapids metropolitan areas entirely by nature trail.
• $750,000 to the city of Maquoketa and Jackson County Conservation to improve the Prairie Creek Recreation Area. The project includes the installation of a whitewater paddling course on the Maquoketa River, a championship caliber disc golf course and American with Disability Act accessible hiking trails.
• $400,000 to the city of Colfax for improvements to Quarry Springs Park. The project includes the creation of a new 30-site RV campground, a modern shower house and bathrooms and an ADA-accessible dock.

The $100 million Destination Iowa program was approved in April to invest in attractions that will enhance the quality of life in communities and attract visitors and new residents. This was the second round of funding awarded through the program. The first round included $16.5 million for four projects. Funded projects must be completed by June 30, 2026.
