Waukee will be conducting a laborshed employment study to identify which communities contribute to the city’s workforce. According to a news release, the purpose of the study, done in collaboration with Iowa Workforce Development and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, is to measure the availability and characteristics of Waukee area workers. It is based on where people commuting into the Waukee area to work live. Letters will be sent to employers in Waukee asking that they provide ZIP codes for where their employees live. Laborshed studies can be used by economic development teams and employers to better understand the labor market, make decisions on expansion and site selection, and maintain and recruit a high-quality workforce. Data collection began last week and officials say it could take about four months to finish collecting and processing the data before it would be made public.
